About NASDAQ 100:
NASDAQ 100 is a Stock Exchange, which includes the top hundred of the largest international and domestic non-financial firms that are listed on the stock Exchange of NASDAQ. NASDAQ comprises of market value weighted index of a modified nature, in which the weights of the firms are established on the capitalization of the market under some specific rules. These rules help in the capping of the influence of the big constituents. NASDAQ 100 is devoid of any financial firms and comprises of firms incorporated in the states of Israel, Canada, India, Sweden, Ireland, Singapore and Switzerland. These parameters help in the differentiation of NASDAQ 100 from S&P 500.
History of NASDAQ 100:
The NASDAQ 100 was established on the 31st of January, 1985. The NASDAQ was mainly established for its stock market to affirm heightened media reporting for it. Both NASDAQ Financial-100 and NASDAQ 100 were launched in the same day. This was one of the reasons why the financial firms are not included in the NASDAQ-100. At the initial phase of its establishment, the base price of the NASDAQ index was first arranged at 250. When the index closed at the vicinity of 800 on 31st of December, 1993, the base price was revised at 125. This left the price of NASDAQ-100 more than half of that of the NASDAQ Composite. The first adjustments made by NASDAQ-100 were in the year 1993. Foreign firms were first listed in the NASDAQ-100 index from January 1998. For the listing of foreign companies, higher standards were essential. This was relaxed in the year 2002. |
