U.S. Sub-Prime Loan Crisis:
Between the years 2002 and 2004, the rates of interest in the United States were very low. There was a real estate boom due to such low interest rates which was financed through the sub-prime loans. The borrowers of these loans were often people with a weak credit history. But the banks did not worry as the rates of interest were low. Some banks converted these loans into bonds. These bonds were sold to mutual funds and insurance companies. But in the year 2006, the rates of interest in the United States stared to rise resulting in the non payment of installments by the customers. On account of this, the sub-prime loans started to collapse. This collapse has resulted in a financial crisis in America for investors as well as the stock market. |
